| The MWOTRC was founded in 1984. Our club is comprised of people of all ages who have in common, a love of Old Time Radio. We discuss, collect, exchange and preserve information related to all aspects of OTR. Both individually and as a club, we collect and share OTR audio tapes, records, books, scripts, magazines and any related memorabilia. |
|
We seek out and honor those in our area who were
active in any phase of Old Time Radio as well as those who seek
to preserve the memories. Those who have spoken at our monthly
meetings include: Arthur Peterson, Laurette Fillbrandt, Frank
Bingman, Adrian Cronauer, and Ed Walker
.
We have donated our services and enriched the lives
of people of all ages and circumstances by presenting OTR panel
discussions and programs at the Smithsonian, NOVA College, several
local elementary schools and numerous senior citizens' groups
and retirement homes. We have supported local radio station WAMU's
fund raiser by manning the pledge telephones during the "Big
Broadcast" portion of the fund drive. Our club and members
have presented several original old time radio play broadcasts
on the Fairfax County Community Cable Television series "Out
Of The Past".
The club has an international membership of over 210 members, of which
two thirds are local to the Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland
vicnity. Meetings are held on the second Friday of most months at 7:30
PM in the Parish Hall of Trinity Episcopal Church, 2217 Columbia Pike
(On the Corner of S. Wayne Street) Arlington, Virginia. The June and
December meetings are luncheon meetings which start at 11:30 AM and are
held at a local restaurant in the Alexandria, Virginia area. Members,
guests, and the general public are invited to all meetings, which
include presentations and demonstrations.
We publish a bi-monthly newsletter which contains
articles and announcements regarding vintage radio. We have two
libraries from which members may rent items for a modest cost
(see details below): an audio cassette library and a printed matter
library. The catalogues are included with the membership fee.
Membership Privileges Include Two
(2) Free Audio Cassette Rentals From The Lending Library.
Annual dues are $20.00 for local members and $15.00
for out of area members (more than 30 miles from the Metropolitan
area) and senior citizens (age 60 and over). Since all members
get the newsletter and all borrowing privileges, we discount the
membership fee for out-of-area members to compensate them since
they are too far away to enjoy the programs.
If you are in the area, we invite you to attend any
of our meetings when you wish. Should you wish to join, send
your annual dues to our Treasurer and Membership Coordinator,
Jonathan Orovitz, whose email is
. You may e-mail Jonathan at

The Open Reel Library consisting of approximately 1000 reels was
discontinued in 1996 because of lack of usage.
(When requests dropped to less than six a
year, it was decided to close the archive.) Volunteers are in the process of
transcribing the open reels to cassettes, and as they are finished, they will
be placed in the cassette library. Updates are furnished to the membership via
RADIO RECALL.
The Printed Library consists of over 200 books, periodicals, and scripts which may be borrowed for one month for two dollars plus postage. Members may choose first-class or book rate. Catalog furnished to new members upon joining. |
